ISO refers to International Organization for Standardization. Here, we will discuss the ISO certification (ISO9001).
ISO makes sure that the quality of the products, products themselves, plus their services can be trusted because they’re safe. Did you know that ISO has its own 21000 International Standards? Well, it does. And did you know about ISO ‘s technical committee?
The panel of experts that are present on the technical committee develop the ISO standards. They make drafts first and then the votes and comments are given by all the members that are shareholders or consumer associations etc. After proper analysis of the draft, if all the members agree on it, then only it becomes an official ISO standard.
The members of the committee can be consumer associations, various NGOs or the Govt itself. This means the experts are from different parts of the world!!
The consumer groups request the standards to be taken into consideration and then the idea becomes the draft, all the views from different shareholders and other experts are analyzed to make the standard finally develop.

ISO’s headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland. ISO sets standards and the members who are representing standards who are from the national standards organization.
The ISO 9000 family addresses some of the various aspects of quality management and it also contains some of ISO’s best-known standards. The standards provide guidance and also tools for the companies and organizations who want to ensure that their products and the services consistently meet the customer’s requirements and that the quality is consistently improved.
INFORMATION ABOUT ISO 9001 Certification:
ISO 9001 sets out certain necessary requirements of a quality management system. Different organizations can use it irrespective of the size. There are thus many companies in different countries that thereby certify to ISO 9001.
ISO 9001:2015 sets out the criteria for a quality management system and is thus the only standard in the family that can be certified to (although this is not a requirement). Any organization can use it, be it large or small, regardless of its field of activity. In fact, there are over one million companies and the organizations in over 170 countries that are certified to ISO 9001.
This standard is thus based on a number of quality management principles which also include a strong customer focus, the motivation and the implication of top management, the process of approach and its continual improvement. However using ISO 9001:2015 helps to ensure that the customers get consistent, there are good quality products and the services, which in turn brings many business benefits.
ISO also has a range of standards for the quality management systems which are thus based on ISO 9001. And are adapted to the specific sectors and the industries. These include:
ISO/TS 29001 – Petroleum, petrochemical and also natural gas industries
ISO 13485 – Medical devices
ISO/IEC 90003 – Software engineering
ISO 17582 – Electoral organizations at all the levels of government
ISO 18091 – Local government
The Process approach should, however, be effective, and the customers should be the priority. After all the ISO 9001 aims at providing the customers with the good quality products and also services. It always brings them back to the company and thus there are then many more benefits!
